This Gewehr 98 was manufactured in 1917 by Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. in Oberndorf and chambered in 8mm Mauser, with a 29.5-inch round barrel. The bore shows light frosting in the grooves with strong rifling, and the serial numbers do not match. The metal has a brown-grey patina, a faint import mark is on the barrel shank, and the rifle keeps its Lange roller-coaster rear sight. The action is smooth and functions correctly, and the listing marks the rifle as used.

Collectors of Imperial German service rifles will look first at the sight, the maker and the serial numbers. The non-matching serials and the import mark are details buyers should weigh before they decide. The stock carries the handling and service impressions expected for its age, and the smooth action and solid stock suit a study collection or a historic rifle shelf.
