CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS

Ohio buyers tend to want one pistol that does the carry job and the nightstand job without fuss, and CZ's new DUTY 4.0 is aimed right at that. CZ's new-generation striker-fired 9x19 sits on a serialized internal chassis, with a fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame that is modular. The slide is direct-mount optics ready with fixed sights kept on, the barrel is 4 inches and unthreaded, and at 33 mm wide it stays flat on the belt in Columbus or Cleveland traffic.

The compact DUTY 4.0 C holds 15+1, or 17+1 with the extended base plate, weighs 770 g and stands 135 mm; the full-size DUTY 4.0 F holds 17+1 (19+1 extended) at 780 g and 143 mm. Order either with a manual thumb safety as the MS model or without. The refined SFDA trigger comes in at 25±4 N, roughly 5.6 lbs, with a 4 mm reset. Akron, Canton, Toledo and Lorain shooters can mount a Holosun, Aimpoint or Shield dot straight to the slide. New release, $729 MSRP.

Capacity on the full-size is 17+1 standard and 19+1 with the extended base plate. Height 5.6 in (143 mm), empty weight 27.7 oz (780 g). It is the duty-belt, range and home-defense version of the line, and the one most owners find easiest to shoot well.

MS stands for external safety. This model adds a frame-mounted lever to the internal safeties every DUTY has: the firing pin block, the trigger safety and the trigger bar safety. Agencies and owners who want a positive on/off control choose this version; the trigger itself is unchanged.

Under the DUTY name sits a serial-numbered modular chassis, a 1.3 in (33 mm) wide fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame, a 4-inch barrel and a trigger CZ rates at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) with a 0.16 in (4 mm) reset. The slide is optics-ready by direct mount rather than an adapter plate. Fixed sights come standard, and the barrel is not threaded.

Best fit: the belt, the bedside and the range; the version to buy if you rarely need to hide the gun. Shooters coming from a CZ 75 will recognize the grip angle; owners coming from any other striker gun will notice the trigger first.

Questions buyers ask: How does buying the DUTY 4.0 work in Ohio? Ohio has no purchase permit and no waiting period. You name an Ohio dealer at checkout, the pistol ships there, and the dealer runs the federal background check at pickup. What is the difference between the DUTY 4.0 MS and the standard model? The MS adds a manual thumb safety on top of the firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety. Everything else, including barrel, slide and capacity, is the same. Is the CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS the same gun as the F? Yes, apart from the manual thumb safety. Chassis, trigger, slide and the 17+1 capacity are identical.
