CZ DUTY 4.0 C

Ohio buyers tend to want one pistol that does the carry job and the nightstand job without fuss, and CZ's new DUTY 4.0 is aimed right at that. CZ's new-generation striker-fired 9x19 sits on a serialized internal chassis, with a fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame that is modular. The slide is direct-mount optics ready with fixed sights kept on, the barrel is 4 inches and unthreaded, and at 33 mm wide it stays flat on the belt in Columbus or Cleveland traffic.

The compact DUTY 4.0 C holds 15+1, or 17+1 with the extended base plate, weighs 770 g and stands 135 mm; the full-size DUTY 4.0 F holds 17+1 (19+1 extended) at 780 g and 143 mm. Order either with a manual thumb safety as the MS model or without. The refined SFDA trigger comes in at 25±4 N, roughly 5.6 lbs, with a 4 mm reset. Akron, Canton, Toledo and Lorain shooters can mount a Holosun, Aimpoint or Shield dot straight to the slide. New release, $729 MSRP.

The chassis is serial-numbered and modular, which is CZ's way of making the polymer grip swappable. The frame itself is fiberglass-reinforced polymer, 1.3 in (33 mm) wide, on a 4-inch barrel and a 7.4 in (188 mm) overall length. The SFDA trigger breaks at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) and resets in 0.16 in (4 mm). Optics mount directly to the slide; the photos from CZ show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield footprints.

Compact means 15+1 rounds in a frame 5.3 in (135 mm) high. Fit the extended base plate and it holds 17+1. At 27.2 oz (770 g) unloaded it sits between a pocket pistol and a full-size gun, which is exactly where a carry-and-bedside 9mm belongs.

No external safety here. The firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety handle drop safety, and the holster handles the rest. CZ sells the same gun with a frame-mounted lever as the MS model.

Best fit: concealed carry where your state allows it, home defense, and range time that does not need a full-size grip. Shooters coming from a CZ 75 will recognize the grip angle; owners coming from any other striker gun will notice the trigger first.

Questions buyers ask: How does buying the DUTY 4.0 work in Ohio? Ohio has no purchase permit and no waiting period. You name an Ohio dealer at checkout, the pistol ships there, and the dealer runs the federal background check at pickup. What is the difference between the DUTY 4.0 MS and the standard model? The MS adds a manual thumb safety on top of the firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety. Everything else, including barrel, slide and capacity, is the same. Does the CZ DUTY 4.0 C take CZ P-10 magazines? CZ lists the DUTY with its own 15-round magazine and an extended base plate for 17+1. P-10 magazine fit is not confirmed, so plan on DUTY magazines.
