Federal Premium Vital-Shok TruBall is a new 12 gauge slug load in 2 3/4-inch shells, sold five to a box. Each shell carries a 1-ounce lead rifled slug. The TruBall system places a plastic ball between the wad and the slug, which the supplier says helps stabilize the slug for accuracy from smoothbore barrels. The casing is plastic, and the product is ammunition rather than a firearm.

This load suits hunters who want slug performance from a smoothbore shotgun without changing to a rifled barrel. The supplier also lists practice and sight-in sessions as uses. A five-round box is a small supply for a hunting trip or a sight-in day, so it fits well into a range bag. Shooters can match the 2 3/4-inch shell length to their shotgun chamber before buying.
